There is a lot of talk in the media about electric cars. Many people are saying that these could be a great alternative to petrol and diesel. We are probably all tired of hearing about the disadvantages of being so over dependent on oil based fuel, but up until now there doesn’t seem to be too many alternatives. We have been hearing about electric cars for years but for a long time these seemed more like novelty items then realistic alternatives. But the changes to technology have meant that these cars have become a reality now and there are more of them being made all the time. It seems that the day of the electric car might really have come.
How Does An Electric Car Work?
As the name would suggest, the electric car runs on an electric motor and therefore does not need to use petrol. These cars use rechargeable batteries to power the electric motor. Many electric cars look identical to normal cars on the outside it is only underneath the hood where the big difference lies. You have to charge an electric car. To prevent the car’s electric cells from being damaged a special charger has been built in order to charge the car’s battery. It normally takes a few hours to charge your vehicle. And as advancements are made it is taking less time to charge the car’s battery and the length of time that the car can run on a battery is increasing. At the moment most electric cars will recharge at about 20% per hour and this means that it takes about five hours to fully recharge.
Many believe that electric cars will become a lot more popular in the years to come. Hopefully as this happens it will lead to them becoming cheaper as well. The idea of one day not having to go to a petrol station to fill up the tank is very appealing to many of us.
Technological advances today are often astounding. And none so more than in the automotive industry. Take all things to do with the electric car. With far reaching advances in electric vehiclesfor example like crossover cars to name but a few.
